Potassium Metabisulphite 100-250gms

Description

Potassium Metabisulphite is sometimes used in the brewing industry to inhibit the growth of wild bacteria and fungi. It is also used to neutralize chlorine and monochloramine from tap water. It is used both by home brewers and commercial brewers alike. 1 gram of Potassium Metabisulphite creates 0.57 grams SO2, (SULFUR DIOXIDE GAS).

USAGE LEVEL

0.31grams treats 23 ltrs

This packet contains 100gms of powder which is equivalent to 200 Campden tablets so use sparingly. This is equivalent to tablets and can be used in the same ratio (but much cheaper).

One teaspoon dry potassium metabisulphite weighs approximately 1.4 grams. So, 0.44 grams (the contents of one Campden tablet) is 0.44/1.4 = 0.314, or roughly 1/3 of a teaspoon.

STORAGE

Store in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from incompatible materials and foodstuff.

FIRST AID MEASURES

Skin Contact: If skin contact occurs: Immediately remove all contaminated clothing, including footwear. Flush skin and hair with running water (and soap if available). Seek medical attention in event of irritation.

Inhalation: If fumes or combustion products are inhaled remove from contaminated area. Lay patient down. Keep warm and rested. Prostheses such as false teeth, which may block airway, should be removed, where possible, prior to initiating first aid procedures. Apply artificial respiration if not breathing, preferably with a demand valve resuscitator, bag-valve mask device, or pocket mask as trained. Perform CPR if necessary. Transport to hospital, or doctor, without delay.

Ingestion: Immediately give a glass of water. First aid is not generally required. If in doubt, contact a Poisons Information Centre or a doctor.
